After undergoing research in magazine advertisements for albums/singles, I identified that one common convention of magazine adverts is that they have relation to the front cover of the digi-pack (practically a variation of the digi-pack). As I intend for my advert to follow this convention, I will be basing my magazine advert off of whatever my final digi-pack cover appears like. More specifically, it is common for the magazine advert to include the same or a cropped image of the digi-pack front cover. Examples of this include: Tom Odell - 'Long Way Down'. Kings of Leon - 'Only by the Night' and The Killers - 'Day and Age'. Based on this common convention, we will experiment with this idea and potentially incorporate it into our finalised piece. One reason for the relation between the front cover of the digi-pack and the magazine advert is that customers need to be able to recognise the image and know what they are looking for when wanting to purchase the album/single.One general convention we identified after research was the inclusion of reviews and ratings from different magazine/newspapers. This is used as a promotional tool used to attract the target audience. This influenced our decision of including reviews and ratings. The sizing, positioning and colour of these may vary depending on our finalised background image.
In terms of font, conventions imply they stay the same throughout digi-pack and magazine advert. The font I ultimately choose will therefore be the same font that I use for the final DigiPak. The font we decided to go for with our DigiPak was 'Thruster'.
Another convention of virtually all of magazine advertisements is the inclusion of a release date (or 'coming soon'). Based on this convention, we feel it is necessary to include this aspect. We have identified that the release date is usually the font used for the magazine advert. Therefore we feel the release date should also be in the font 'Thruster'.
