Magazine Advert Development

Having designed the DigiPak cover, I knew the style and appearance that I was going for with the magazine advert. Using Adobe Illustrator, I created a new document, inserted the image I used for my digi-pack front cover. After this I created a clipping mask so that I could correctly re-size the image to the size of a magazine advert.
I decided to go with the same font ('Thruster') as my front cover as a general convention is that the fonts stay the same throughout both digi-pack and advert. The size, positioning and colour of the font also stayed the same as the digi-pack.

A release date was included on the basis of it being a common convention of magazine adverts. The font remains the same.

The decision to include reviews and ratings was previously decided on my Magazine Ideas Post. This decision was made on the basis of it being a general convention. The reviews included short, fictional quotes made by MTV, The Guardian, and The Sun.

Another feature commonly found on magazine advertisements is the inclusion of record label information. We decided to go with logos of the record labels associated with the making of the song we used for our music video. These were: 'Playaz', 'Shogun Audio' and 'Hardware Productions'. These logos were first saved off the internet, then inserted onto illustrator, then 'image traced' (improves quality of image) and finally 'expanded'. After this process the image could be 'ungrouped' which detaches the segments of the image allowing me to delete the background.

Pictured below is the finalised version of my magazine advertisement. Despite being minimalistic in the information provided within, it contains all necessary conventions of magazine adverts. It also correlates in with my music video through to inclusion of an emoji image and a scenic /countryside photograph. The countryside is a major location used throughout our music video.
