Test Footage (DSLR camera)

15-11-16
We decided to go out and film some test footage for our music video. Unfortunately the actors were unavailable so we had to improvise by acting ourselves. We were also short on time so we were only able to film in one of our chosen locations (abandoned hospital). The aim of this footage for to experiment with the camera and identify certain factors that do and do not work. This then would make us more organised going into filming the real footage therefore giving us more time.

During the process we able to identify what lighting looked best. Fortunately the weather was good and there was sufficient lighting creating a good looking finish to our filming. Indicating that weather is vital when filming our production.

A major part of our music video is the use of slow motion. Unfortunately DSLR cameras can only film at 25fps (frames per second) so when watching the footage back and editing the speed to 50%, the footage looked blurred and the quality was weakened. This suggests the DSLR camera may not be the best camera to use for slow motion shots. A GoPro camera will be much better at slowing down shots as it is able to film in 50fps giving it a much better quality finish when slowed down.
