Marxism - relating to my film opening

200 words on how the Marxist Theory can be applied to our film opening.

Marxism states that we live in a capitalist society whereby there are two basic classes – The bourgeoisie (ruling class) and the proletariat (working class). The theory believes the relationship between these two classes is exploitative. Marxists state how the ruling capitalist class are able to protect their economic interests ultimately keeping control of their superstructure. They believe representations are encoded into mass media texts in order to do this therefore reinforcing dominant ideology in society. In our film opening it is simple for audience to identify the difference in social class between our central protagonists. Marxists would argue this is because of the preconceived stereotypes that we have adapted through the use of media. Our characters portray their social class through different factors such as their activities, attire and living arrangements.
