Director: Phil Pinto
This music video portrays a separation / breakup of a romantic couple. The music video doesn't present the viewers to any indication as to why they broke up or what happened during the relationship. The music video shows both members of this once romantic relationship dwelling and reminiscing what they once had after the event of break up. It is a narrative video as the lyrics have a direct connection to the theme of the video, for example, "your love is just a game, now I can't get you out of my brain". The video is split in half and one character is seen on the left and one on the right. This allows the viewer to see both characters' day-to-day life without each other and shows the struggle both are having. There is a huge amount of star treatment as one of the protagonists in the singer of the song (Charlie Puth). In terms of mise-en-scene; both characters look to be of a higher class living in a nice central city area of America. The shot types vary slightly however close-ups look to be the most predominant shot. Having close ups helps show emotion of the characters which is vital in a music video themed like this. There are no glimpses of performance. Dancing and singing is shown briefly but not to this song as they were playing karaoke.
In terms of editing in this video, there is minimal focus. The pace of the video throughout stays relatively similar and there are no special affects involved. This slower paced editing matches the slow paced beat of the song. There is quite a dark lighting throughout this video creating a sense of depression/upset which matches the lyrics and song in general.
